Ingredients
  

  • Soft bread crusts removed white or brioche works best
  • Nutella or any chocolate spread
  • 1 small egg for the egg wash
  • 1 tsp milk to mix with the egg wash

Instructions
 

  • 1: Flatten the middle of the bread
  • Lay out your soft bread slices on a clean surface. Using your thumbs or the back of a spoon, press down the middle of the bread, leaving a small 1cm border around the edge.
  • Step 2: Add the Nutella Filling
  • Spread a small scoop of Nutella in the centre of each slice, avoiding the border to prevent leakage and to ensure it seals properly.
  • Step 3: Egg Wash, Fold and Seal the Edges
  • Make the egg wash by mixing the egg with the milk in a small bowl or ramekin, then using a pastry brush, brush it over the border. Set aside the remaining egg wash for the tops.
  • Fold the bread in half over the Nutella and press the edges together with your fingers and thumbs to ensure they stick.
  • Using a fork, firmly press down the edges to seal the filling inside. This step is important to keep the Nutella from oozing out while cooking (and it looks pretty).
  • Step 4: Apply the Egg Wash
  • Using a pastry brush, lightly brush the remaining egg wash over the top and edges of each toast pie. This helps create a golden, crispy crust when baked.
